Lower School: Kindergarten – 4th Grade

From our full day Kindergarten program, through fourth grade, your children experience amazing intellectual growth and form behaviors and disciplines that will help create their futures. We work very hard to make sure students at this age are challenged and enriched at all times.

We have a fierce commitment to character building through the reinforcement of traditional values. Our formalized program of character education focuses on nine monthly virtues. We believe that virtues such as friendship, courage, thankfulness, charity, courage and stewardship are as important to forming successful human beings as academic excellence. The values that we call “traditional” transcend the boundaries of culture, religion or ethnicity.

Enrichment Activities
Field trips are one way we augment classroom lessons at every grade level. Our students visit dozens of local and regional destinations, including the Pool Wildlife Sanctuary, Moravian College's Foy Hall, Allentown Symphony Hall, Flint Hill Education Center, the Velodrome, and Ellis Island.

Frequent visitors also enhance the learning experience; students have heard from travelers to Haiti and Honduras, enjoyed presentations about world cultures and religions, and tried their hand at sand painting and Chinese handwriting.

Extracurricular Activities
In third grade students may begin to participate in the instrumental music programs, and third- and fourth graders join the fifth grade in our Swain Chorus. After-school programs offer a wide range of opportunities such as dancing, ice skating, cooking, science fun, cheerleading and learning to be a mascot.

Faculty
The Lower School faculty and accredited specialists are highly qualified professionals, many of whom hold advanced degrees. A full-time school counselor directs our Character Education program, in addition to helping students acclimate when necessary. Class sizes range from 11 to 16 students, limited to maximize the potential for student/teacher interaction.
