Financing Your Child's Education

We are committed to providing an education to academically qualified children regardless of race, creed or gender and realize that parents are interested in options for financing your child's education. A family may qualify for Need-Based Tuition Assistance and/or a Student Loan, both of which are explained below.

  • Tuition for Preschool & Prekindergarten
  • Tuition for Kindergarten - 8th Grade

Need-Based Tuition Assistance Available for Students in K-8

This is an award based upon financial need which does not have to be repaid by the family. Although not every family may be eligible, this is still the first option to explore. In recent years,
15 percent of students enrolled in independent schools nationally received some financial aid.

To begin our Tuition Assistance process, click here to access the online version of the School and Student Service (SSS) financial aid application.

After completing the form, parents will send it to Educational Testing Service in Princeton, NJ. ETS evaluates a family's need and sends its recommendation regarding aid to The Swain School. After review by our Tuition Assistance Committee (which occurs after a student is accepted for enrollment), parents are notified of the amount of aid, if any, to be offered and are given the opportunity to accept or decline this offer. All information remains confidential.

Upon Acceptance

After you have been notified of your acceptance, you will be asked to provide the following documents:

  • Copy of your child's birth certificate
  • Proof of citizenship and/or visa
  • Immunization records or waiver
  • Custodial agreement (if parents are separated or divorced)

If you are interested in doing so, you will be paired with a current Swain family who will serve as your "Swain Ambassador". They will be available as a contact to help you with any questions you may have, invite you to school events, and generally assist you in your transition to our school.

Student Loan Program: Available for Students in Grades K-8

Families will follow the process outlined for the need-based tuition assistance in terms of submitting information to Educational Testing Service. Swain's Tuition Assistance Committee determines a family's eligibility for this program. Repayment of the loan begins after the student leaves The Swain School.

The borrower agrees to repay the loan amount plus 6 percent interest over three years. For each subsequent year that the student is enrolled and paying full tuition, 25 percent of the loan amount is forgiven.

Tuition Payment Plans: Available for All Students

  • Option A: Payment in full by August 1.
  • Option B: Semi-annual payment of 60 percent of tuition and fees by August 1; second and final payment is due in January.
  • Option C: Ten monthly installments, starting on July 1. A finance charge is computed on the unpaid balance as of August and January, at a periodic rate of 1.5 percent per month (annual percentage rate of 18 percent).

Swain is also pleased to offer multi-child discounts as well as prepay options that will lock in the current tuition rate. We welcome the opportunity to talk with you about financing your child's education. Please contact Robert Haas, Business Manager, at 610-433-4542, ext. 114.
