Theatre & Drama
"The theater is so endlessly fascinating because it's so accidental. It's so much like life." — Arthur Miller
The teaching of drama skills to Swain's kindergarten through eighth graders is an integral part of our curriculum.
The theatre specialist takes elements of music, visual arts, dance and movement to spark the students’ imaginations. Creativity, collaboration and cooperation are the guideposts.
For example, rather than performing a prepared script, students will be asked to create visual images with paint while they listen to classical music. Or, another selection will be played and the students will be asked to position themselves into a tableau or ‘frozen picture’ that the music suggests.
These new skills and experiences were used when the middle school students presented their annual spring drama production, "Annie", in March. See the photos from the dress rehearsal.
