The Swain School believes that sports are an important way to reinforce values and build skills that children will use not only on the playing fields but in many areas of life. Athletes learn leadership, initiative, cooperation and time management. The sports program provides a way to teach these important skills to students in a positive, enjoyable setting.

We start in preschool with Creative Movement and continue with a comprehensive Physical Education program in Lower and Middle School, competitive sports in Middle School, a summer sports camp schedule, and various after-school programs for younger athletes. Swain programs strive to build skills and self-confidence while stressing cooperation and good sportsmanship.
Basic skills for many sports are introduced in lower grades. By the fourth grade, Swain children have been introduced to many sports in gym classes. They know how to shoot a basketball, use a lacrosse stick, kick a soccer ball and play field hockey.
From fifth grade on, students may join inter-scholastic teams that hold regular practices and play other schools both at home and away. Uniforms and bus transportation are provided by the school.
