Reaching Out

Since World War II when Swain students knit socks for the Red Cross and filled them with candy, our educational philosophy has emphasized commitment to community.

We encourage children to realize that they have the power to improve the quality of life in their own communities and for others far away. Throughout the school year, students and their families are involved in projects that benefit both local and international organizations.

Good Neighbors

The school shares its facilities and programs with the surrounding community in many ways. Twelve different church groups have met for worship on our campus. Regional and local professional groups frequently meet at Swain, and the school also serves as the area's voting precinct. Karate classes, basketball leagues, Brownies and Cub Scouts also use Swain facilities.

In addition, Swain has designed a special summer enrichment program open to all children in the community: Summers at Swain offers a wide variety of courses, from kitchen science and dancing to sports skills and 'making masterpieces'. The courses run for two weeks and are available for children from age 3-1/2 to entering fifth grade.

Our Summer Sports Camps are also open to children in the community.

Last year's "Kuddles for Kids" drive, spearheaded by the Class of '07, resulted in a donation of over 200 stuffed animals to Sacred Heart Hospital's pediatric department.
