5th graders address global challenge
This year Swain’s fifth grade students - along with their teachers, Mrs. Coverley, Miss Young, Miss Miller, and Senorita Parente - are participating in the National Association of Independent School's Challenge 20/20. The program has paired The Swain School with a group of fourth- and fifth grade students at the International School in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
We are working together to tackle the global challenge of “Education for All”. We are researching and working out a plan to find solutions to this challenge, finding ways that we can help unravel this challenge in our community.
Swain students SKYPE with our partner school biweekly and discuss our progress and the challenges of global literacy and education.
One of our community projects is volunteering at the Linden Street branch of Community Service for Children. Students will be volunteering in their seven classrooms, which they did on Dec. 12. In May of 2012, our students will present a report to NAIS on our findings.
