7th graders write kids books

Seventh grade students in Mary Gruber's English classes recently enjoyed the challenge of writing and illustrating a children's book.

Mrs. Gruber gave each student a hard-bound book, and asked them to include some of these themes: global awareness, colors, shapes, letters, continents, sharing, Guatemala, and friendship - and make it appropriate for children aged 3-7.

When the books were completed, Mrs. Gruber arranged to have her students read to Preschool, Prekindergarten, Kindergarten and first grade classes. The audiences were appreciative!

Seventh grader Gabrielle chose to focus on friendship for her book, Just Different. The story followed the adventures of friends, who found that differences in clothes and hairstyles did not mean they couldn't stay friends.
