Swain visited by PAIS evaluation team
All member schools of the Pennsylvania Association of Independent Schools (PAIS) are slated for a full-scale accreditation visit every ten years. The Swain School will be evaluated this year based on 25 standards of excellence set by PAIS - as part of the process, we welcomed the Visiting Committee on Feb. 5-8.
For over a year the Swain faculty and staff have worked on completing a self-study, looking at philosophy and mission, governance, administration, financial management, institutional advancement, school and community, program, personnel, health and safety, and physical plant. This self-study was then shared with the eight committee members who visited Swain; they were administrators and faculty from other PAIS schools.
During the visit, the Visiting Committee toured the school, observed academic and extracurricular programs, and interviewed faculty, staff, trustees, parents, and students. They reviewed the self-study, considered the school’s compliance with PAIS standards, wrote a report with commendations and recommendations, and sent their report to the PAIS Commission for Accreditation.
The Chair of the visiting committee will personally present the report to the Commission, which reviews the report and recommends accreditation to the PAIS Board of Directors for ratification. The Swain School absorbed the cost of all the evaluations, inspections and visitation expenses for the eight committee members.
This ten year evaluation comes at a perfect time for The Swain School since the school is half-way through its five year strategic plan (2009-2014). The visiting committee’s commendations and recommendations will help motivate all members of the school community to accomplish the remainder of the strategic goals and strategies over the next two years.
Leah Papp, Director of Admissions, and Ruth Ann Haussmann, School Counselor, were the co-chairs who coordinated this accreditation process.
