Keep reading over the summer! Our library is open every Wednesday from 11 a.m.-noon, with a special storytime for kids ages preschool-2nd grade, from 11:15-11:45 a.m. For student and teacher book reviews and news from the library, visit the library blog - www.swainlibrary.blogspot.com. |
The Library at Swain contains over 10,000 volumes with more being added all the time. In addition to the local newspaper, the library carries numerous periodicals of interest to students of all ages. All classes, from Preschool (three years old) through 8th grade, use the library at least weekly.
Swain's Librarian, Kristen Armstrong, has worked with the faculty to create a summer reading program for our students. Listed below are the links to the lists, available to download and print (make sure you print out all the pages).
Ms. Armstrong encourages students to utilize their local public library for additional reading and fun programs.
Story Mountain is a special place where children come to hear stories. Kids can sit on the floor in Story Mountain, and, because there are different levels, everyone can see. Children of all ages look forward to special times there - it's the perfect place for reading and listening.
The Class of 2007 and their families did an extensive remodeling of the library as their class gift, including a renovation of Story Mountain that includes colorful murals and their personal touches.
Throughout its history, a Swain education has meant reading. But literacy alone is not enough. We want our children to cherish books and fully appreciate the gateway to knowledge and imagination that reading provides.
