We welcomed hundreds of guests on Friday, April 27, for our annual Grandparents & Special Friends Day celebration.
This is a very special day in which we share all that is exciting about Swain - and our visitors enjoy seeing their favorite Swain students and their work.
A highlight of the day is the program featuring musical performances by all students; music faculty members include Lincoln Herring, Edward Kennedy, Lori Trumbauer, Brian Horvath, Eliza Rush and Brook South. Five eighth grade students read poetry, created under the guidance of Swain's Poet in Residence Marilyn Hazelton.
Classroom visits followed the program; this provided opportunities to see more student work and interact with our guests. Many families and friends also took the opportunity to visit the 28th Annual Student Art Show, which featured hundreds of works by every Swain student.
Grandparents & Special Friends Day is a long-time tradition at The Swain School, as well as at many other independent schools. Swain founder D. Esther Swain is credited with creating the first such event in the country.
